Community, Participation, Advocacy

The Second Sight Project is defined by the neighborhood we reside in, and "creative community" must be inclusive of all our neighbors. This is why art education and neighbor-driven art projects are an important part of our vision.

Our participatory public art projects have included the "Faces of Franklinton" mural at South Green and Sullivant, created by nearly 40 community members and completed in 2016, "Bloom Bloom" hanging sculpture at 730 Bellows created by Central High School's students, and the "Miss Sunflower" mural on N. Chicago Ave. painted by Franklinton Preparatory Academy's students in 2017.  The #asseeninfranklinton banner installation, showcasing the photography of 10 community members, was completed in 2018.

In 2018 we also launched a community narrative initiative, "The Mike Ingles Story Project," which uses the short- story narratives of Mike Ingles to make vintage Franklinton come alive for neighborhood students. The project is ongoing through 2020.

We hold an annual participatory art installation, "Hearts United for One Billion Rising," each February on Bellows Avenue.

With the help of our funding and community partners, we also provide visiting artist programs for area schools and youth groups.

If you are an artist who would like to participate in future education programming, or a community member interested in collaborating on public art or education projects, please feel free to reach out to us through our contact page or by emailing secondsightfranklinton@gmail.com
